***Contest!!!!***

2008 July 1
by Ashley

So yesterday I mentioned a contest on this blog, where you could win prizes, hand selected by ME! It is the group effort Pay It Forward Contest, where if you leave a comment and happen to win, you will get some fun goodies from me but then you must put the contest on your blog and go through the same process (or, if you don’t have a blog, you can go through my commentors and randomly select one (I’m using random.org), you don’t have to have a blog to enter!!). For more rules, and to see a list of all the blogs participating (go enter all of them, I am!) go here. Here are the rules for entering….

  • The contest starts today, July 1, and ends on midnight July 4.
  • All you have to do to enter is comment on this post at any time over the next 4 days, up until the deadline at midnight. There are no catches, no gimmicks, just answer me this one question (since you have to comment anyway!): What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you? (don’t worry, if you can’t answer that, you can just put down how wonderful I am. I know y’all have lots to say on that one ;) )
  • On Saturday I will use a random number generator to pick the winner and announce it by email and on my blog :) You will have to be okay with sending me your mailing address but don’t worry I won’t come stalk you! Just send you some fun goodies of my choosing. :)

So comment away!!! And if you wish to join in on this contest and run your own Pay it Forward contest, just email Swistle at [swistle at gmail dot com] and she will put you up on her site!

Good luck and happy contesting!

The nicest thing anyone has ever done for me? Wow – that’s hard to answer. I’ll say ONE of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me is my boyfriend just bought me a motorcycle because he knew I really wanted one and couldn’t afford one. And now he is all patient teaching me how to drive it. Very sweet. And fun!

I don’t believe for a minute that you won’t stalk me!!

Hrmm, the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me? It’s hard to remember very far back, so I’ll say my mom listening to me complain basically everyday this month about how much this summer sucks without ever getting mad or annoyed…or at least never saying she is mad or annoyed. Yay moms!

I think I’d have to thank my mom for squeezing me out AND putting up with me while I grew up. that’s pretty nice.

People have trouble being nice to me, since I don’t usually reciprocate the niceties.

J is awful nice to me tho. She sent me a card a few weeks back, calling me her sexy bot. Nobody’s done that in a long long time.

The NICEST thing ANYONE has EVER done for me? Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I’ll have to say it’s a SIL who has helped me through a lot and given me understanding about issues I had/have difficulty understanding. So it’s an ongoing kind of thing.

hmm… the guy I work for took me out for my birthday b/c he saw what a pathetic mess I was last year being newly single and no one to celebrate with.

    Thats a post worth writing.

When I was in college and very much hating every single second of it my father wrote me a letter telling me how much he hated being drafted in the army during Vietnam. He was trying to tell me to suck it up, we all have to do things we don’t like, but in the end he told me he would be proud of me no matter what I decided to do. It helped me to make the decision to drop out of school and try it again another time. Best decision I ever made.

the nicest thing someone has done for me was when my flight was delayed in dallas and i was forced to stay in the airport overnight by myself and i started crying. a nice couple that were in the same predicament gave me $20 to make sure i’d get something to eat and be okay. it was seriously so sweet, i appreciated it so much.

Nicest thing? That’s a really hard one. I know that once I pick one and post it something else will pop into my head…

I was at the grocery store with a cart full of groceries already rung up and I discovered that I had left my check book at home. I had two small screaming children and I was seconds away from tears. The woman behind me handed the cashier her credit card and paid for them. She gave me her first name but nothing else so I could pay her back. In truth, I was so poor at the time I probably was planning on bouncing that check anyway. She was my angel.

I’m spoilt for choice in the nice department… I guess I’m lucky that way :p
But today the nicest thing that happened was my little 22 mth son running up to me and giving me a big ol hug before I had to go to work.

  12. 2008 July 1

The adviser for an Interactive Web class I had taken gave me the opportunity to teach the class for credits. I did that for 3 years and was eventually what I ended up getting into for a career. If she hadn’t given me that opportunity to teach as a freshman, I never would have learned so much about the field and would not be where I am right now.

Unfortunately I can’t think of one nice thing, but my parents have done tons for me. From raising me, to dealing with my moods, and teaching me about life. I can be a bit hard to handle sometimes! :)

I can think of a million different nicest things that my wife, family and friends have done for me over the years.

I can’t think of a really nice thing any stranger has ever done for me. Ever!

  16. 2008 July 1

hmmm, the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me? the little things like helping clean my house, watching my babe, taking me out for dinner…

i’m having a contest too – i love paying it forward!

  17. 2008 July 1

THe nicest thing anyone has ever done for me or could ever do for me is to babysit my kids. Every mom needs a break now and then!

  18. 2008 July 1

I was 3 weeks pregnant with a severe stomach virus on the day my husband and I were supposed to celebrate our 4th anniversary. In the midst of taking care of our toddler and me my husband brought me a small box into the bedroom. He always does very well in the jewelry department, but this was the best ever. When I felt the ugliest I’ve ever felt he gave me a gorgeous diamond ring! Love him forever dude!

  19. 2008 July 1

The nicest thing anyone has ever done for me was my husband when he married me… I thought I was gonna end up an old maid :) Or my parents when they paid for me to go on a 3-month study abroad trip to Spain.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I had a baby shower given by my mom in my hometown. One of my best friends was not able to make it, but the other was. She drove the 350ish miles away to be at my shower. Then she left immediately after the party, saying she needed to be back for work late that night or something. She offered to take some of the big items I’d just gotten (like the changing table) with her, since she had a bigger car.

When I returned to my house a few days later, I found the nursery I’d barely begun for my new baby completely finished. That friend had driven all those miles back and enlisted the help of my other friend (the one who couldn’t make it to the shower), and they’d done it together. There were also lots of cute baby related gifts from them in the room, and even a trail of Rolos candies that led me up to the nursery when I arrived home.

I think I cried for days over this, I was so overwhelmed by what they’d done!

In college my roommate bought me roses when she found out that no one ever had before. I don’t know if that’s the nicest thing, but it comes to mind at this moment.

My friend figured out how tight our budget is (farmers) and “did” Christmas for my kids for the last 2 years. I mean, she went all out and even wrapped everything and put it under my tree — labeled from Santa and me. I cried. And when my kids had an awesome Christmas — they were so giddy and excited and then I cried again — happy tears. I am working on something for her — she doesn’t know — but I love the pay it forward idea — so good!

I had just gotten home after spending twelve days in the hospital, sitting beside my daughter who was recovering from reconstructive surgery.

And entire dinner was left on my doorstep by a friend of mine.

Her kindness in my time of need, blew me away.

  24. 2008 July 1

Even though it is extremely sappy, I would say that the nicest thing anyone ever did for me is introduce me to my fiance!

  25. 2008 July 1

My friends and family are so great and they do some many small and large things for me everyday. The best is their love and support.

  26. 2008 July 1

The best thing anyone’s ever done for me would have to be my husband volunteering to work two jobs so that I can be a stay-at-home mom.

I was going to comment and tell you how you’re cheating at NaPoBlo… er whatever it’s called, but then I noticed the month of June is over. You’re off the hook, however next time you do it (and there WILL be a next time) you better not give us fluff just to meet your daily blog requirement!

The nicest thing anyone has ever done for me… without a doubt is wait almost 2.5 years for me to get out of a relationship. She loved me and was willing to wait, I can’t think of anything better than that.

  28. 2008 July 2

The nicest thing anyone has ever done for me… would probably be one time I got mad at my dad for something (can’t remember what it was I got mad at him for) and he showed up with 2 airline tickets to Buenos Aires, Argentina. We only went for a weekend (3 days) but it was fabulous!

  29. 2008 July 2

It is hard to think of the nicest thing done for me. We have been blessed beyond belief by many people in our lives. A neighbor of ours who used to own a little boutique gave me a painting I had admired in her store. She just walked over and gave it to us. That is just the first thing I thought of.

  30. 2008 July 2

One of the nicest things people have done for me is that recently I was in the hospital and a friend in town organized two weeks’ worth of dinners to be delieverd to our house each night when I got home.

After I had my son, I was seriously manic with PPD. My husband, realizing that I needed something, flew my SIL out from WI for a long weekend. It was just what I needed. Well, that and prozac. :-)

The nicest thing anyone has ever done – my friend has this ability to totally focus on another person and their problems instead of herself. She does it for me all the time and I love her for it.

Today I was running late and didn’t have time for breakfast, since I’m a thrifty shopper I grabbed a Micky D’s coupon and headed out the door.

Ordered my free Chicken Biscuit and large OJ…and went to the window. Handed her my cou pon, which she informed me it was expired a day ago. ARgghhhh….. I asked her to remove the OJ and paid for the sandwich.

I drove up to the next window to pickup my sandwich…and the lady asked if I had them remove the large oj…to which I answered yes. She handed it to me with a big smile and said to have a happy holiday.

    Yay…..OJ!!!

My husband has really helped me through a lot of family issues, for which I’ll always be eternally grateful to him.

There are too many nice things people have done for me lately, my family has been going through a difficult time right now.

I am just grateful to be so loved.

I like to the think the surprise party my parents threw for me on my 13th birthday was one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

  42. 2008 July 3

    Love me unconditionally

  43. 2008 July 3

My family is always supportive of the HUGE endeavors I take on. It’s not uncommon to see my Mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister, husband, mom, dad, and brother all volunteering at some large event because I needed help. I am so blessed!

  44. 2008 July 3

Hmmm….my husband goes on a yummy-run for me virtually every night. Although, based on the the way my thighs are encroaching on my pants-legs, maybe that’s not such a nice thing after all…..

  45. 2008 July 3

One year later I’m still grateful to Dr. Kim for the spinal anesthesia (grin). I’m considering myself very lucky as people do nice things for me all the time! The nicest though would have to be that my husband grocery shops EVERY WEEK and cooks dinner EVERY NIGHT.

Back when I was in school, going through a particularly rough week when EVERY design class I was taking had at least two projects due, the only thing I wanted to listen to on my computer was Ani DiFranco. (there’s just something about angry girl music that got me through) After frantically searching my pigsty of a room, I could not find the one and only CD i really wanted to listen to. (mind you, this was back in the day, before ipods and just as napster was going kaput with free downloads). I put up an angry away message on IM, and NOT THREE MINUTES LATER, my wonderful, oh so in tune boss knocked on my door holding her copy of that CD for me to listen to! I almost broke down and cried, from stress and happiness!

So, now whenever I pull out that burned copy of a cd (i never found my own copy) I remember that when things are sucky and I want to wallow in anger and foulness, there just may be a bright spot in the suckiness.

  51. 2008 July 3

Hmmm… nicest thing anyone has ever done for me is hard. I think I’d have to go with my friend who never fails to come back with a well-thought-out gift for me and my wee ones whenever she goes on a trip (and she goes on a LOT of trips!).

well you see I have an amazing boyfriend (not bragging) and he does nice things for me all the time (again not bragging), valentines day two years ago he planned a trip up to San Francisco and we stayed at a great hotel. I could just relax and enjoy the trip because he had everything planned!

The nicest thing anyone has done for me has had to be from my mother. She was with me 24/7 through my treatment for cancer. I couldn’t ask for more.

The nicest thing anyone did for me was a friend who brought us food when our son was in the special care nursery after he was born. I was home, so we drove back and forth to the hospital. We spent most of the day there, but we needed quick food for when we got home late at night. They brought several trays with cheese, crackers, meat, and veggies. It was so wonderful.

  58. 2008 July 4

My husband took over baby duty – without my asking or him even telling me – and let me sleep until I woke up. Wonderful!

  59. 2008 July 5

Well, I had an awful week at work once, and I complained the entire time on the phone, while my husband drove home to his crabby-ass wife. And when he got home? He called me back and told me to look out the front window. And there on the porch was the most beautiful magnolia tree ‘because I know you needed something to make you smile’. Sweet, huh??
